Touristable Project
Touristable Project is funded by Erasmus+ Programme. Project number is 2023-1-IT01-KA210-VET-000152400.
About the project
The Touristable project aims to foster the inclusive integration of disabled people in the labor market within the tourism sector. This initiative brings together five partners from Italy, Spain, Greece, and Slovenia, who, through collaborative activities and the development of specialized resources, seek to overcome the barriers that limit employment opportunities for disabled people in this growing industry.
The project focal point is the Social Inclusion of people with disabilities within the Tourism Sector.
How? By increasing their autonomy and at the same time making them participants in the enhancement of local cultural and tourist resources.
The current attention to the need for broad participation leads to a reconsideration of the concept of Accessibility, extending it to all dimensions: physical, cognitive, sensorial, cultural, economic, and educational. Hence, the need to extend opportunities for inclusion, not only by removing physical and sensorial barriers but also by considering communicative and cognitive obstacles in accessing knowledge and flipping the paradigm, making people with disabilities agents of territorial enhancement.
Promoting participation in territorial enhancement for people with intellectual disabilities means realising self-determination, emancipation, inclusion, and empowerment.
The project will encourage the development of the inclusive tourism sector, benefiting both end-users and sector operators, contributing to the creation of inclusive environments that promote equity and equality and are responsive to community needs, fully addressing market demands.
Formal and informal learning environments play a fundamental role in stimulating participation in social and cultural life, assisting people with disabilities in reaching their potential. The expected outcome is a replicable VET model focused on inclusive tourism and the inclusion of organisations active in employment pathways.
Touristable aims to promote and disseminate best practices, developing them with national and international partners and stakeholders from various European countries. Specifically, the project aims to develop a new model that fosters a comprehensive understanding and enhancement of inclusive tourism, facilitating growth in both employment opportunities for people with disabilities and their ability to travel with awareness.
The Target Groups of the project comprise structures and accommodation facilities, their staff, people with disabilities, cooperatives specialising in people with physical and intellectual disabilities and organisations or cooperatives dealing with people with relational disabilities.
